Blockhead's UNCLE TONY'S COLORING BOOK is a sampledelic mish-mash of everything, stirred with a helping of fun (the samples on the opening track "Coloring Book" emphasize this). "The Strain" starts with a sampled song and sets it afloat a beat and gentling gurgling synth line -- the song ends, but the track goes off in its own direction. Similarly, "Duke of Hazzard" kicks off with a rousing blues rock line and the guitar licks continue throughout, while the saloon piano of "Not So OK Corral" disappears into a horn-and-guitar-driven funk. "Put Down Your Dream Journal And Dance" exhorts you to dance, and God have mercy on your soul if you resist, and "Do the Tron" brings the future into your lap. A little bit of an Indian raga comes through "Get Your Regal On," and a cheeky sense of fun stretches through "Cheer Up You're Not Dead Yet." The blues return on "Trailer Love," and "NYC Bounce" ends the album on a spry note, another ode to the Big Apple
